I started to dream about Mustard Seed IT nearly 15 years ago. Of course, it wasn’t called Mustard Seed IT then. Even when I was an MIS major in the Bauer College of Business, at the University of Houston(UH), I worked in the Bauer Division of Technology (known as RICS at the time), gaining valuable practical experience while learning the theoretical side of information systems and technology.
I also had the desire and passion to be an entrepreneur, though I did not have any kind of encouragement (or encourager) to fan the entrepreneurial flame, so to speak. I remember starting a “company” called PC Guys with my good friend Mike as we were studying together at UH and thought that it was a good way to make money and gain experience before graduating into the real world. At the same time, I was also putting myself out in the market as an IT consultant and got a few gigs that paid well.
Being an international student, there were certain restrictions on what I could do when I graduated and unfortunately, starting a proper business wasn’t an option and so, I had to get a job like everybody else and my dream to run my own IT company got shelved.
Since then, I have worked in various industries and amassed experience in differing technical roles (in the United States, Middle East and now Australia), allowing me to grow into a well-rounded IT professional. If you’d like to learn more about my work experience, I encourage you to read my LinkedIn profile.
In 2010, I had the opportunity to move to Australia to take up a position at Business Computing Australia (BCA), an established managed services provider. In the five years that I worked at BCA (which would eventually become GPK), I not only had the opportunity to hone and expand my technical skills, I also had the chance to sharpen my business knowledge by observing the how and why of managed services and the supreme importance of excellent customer service being paramount to the success of any organisation.
In 2015, I decided to move on from GPK and after a very brief coding role at Centric Web Estate, I realised it was time for me to take a step of faith and rekindle my dream and thus, Mustard Seed IT was born.
