Social Media Services

When I hear people debate the ROI of social media? It makes me remember why so many business fail. Most businesses are not playing the marathon. They’re playing the sprint. They’re not worried about lifetime value and retention. They’re worried about short-term goals.

Is social media marketing better than traditional marketing?

Merriam-Webster defines social media as

forms of electronic communication (as Web sites for social networking and microblogging) through which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content (as videos)

Social media is basically any online community where people with various interests can come together, share information and engage in conversation. In recent years, organisations have used social media networks to not only sell their products and services and provide customer support, but also connect with existing as well as future customers on a more personal level.

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter and Vine are just some of the social media networks currently popular. Why so many you might ask? Each network caters to a certain audience (business only) and often, focuses on a certain format of content (pictures or videos) over others. Facebook is one example of an exception in that it caters to all types of users and is used to share/deliver different types of content. The same is true of Twitter as well. Facebook and Twitter did not start out this way, but has evolved over the years as a result of change in technology as well as user demands.

Marketing has traditionally relied on print (newspapers, magazines, flyers etc.) and media (television, radio etc) as the method of delivery with limited means of measuring success campaigns. Social media marketing not only allows organisations to use social media networks to achieve the goals of traditional marketing but go further in being able to measure success, respond to enquiries, provide customer service/support and proactively build relationships with current as well as future customers.
